The content of our new article and most of the accompanying photos deal with Simon Simonian's student years at the Seminary (Tbrevank) of the Catholicosate of Cilicia in Lebanon.
At the time, the Tbrevank was newly established in Antelias. The site previously housed an American orphanage for Armenian orphans in the same area. The goal of the Tbrevank’s founders and earliest teachers was to prepare first-year students - mostly Genocide survivors - as future clergymen and a new generation of intellectuals. Simon Simonian was one of these first-generation students. The later intellectual path he travelled, his literary and creative work, can also be considered as one of the best proofs of the success of the program of the founders of the Tbrevank.
The article’s author is Nora Sarafian-Tashjian.
In the article, we see how Simon Simonian, during these student years,
was engaged in the meticulous and serious work of copying manuscripts and writing studies about them. This page also presents student notebooks, photographs, manuscripts, and documents belonging to Simonian. All this sheds light on the life of a student attending the Tbrevank.
Most of the materials presented on this page belong to Simon Simonian's archive collection.
